GJC at TASS BRICS media summit in Moscow
The media summit of BRICS, an economic cooperation organization led by Russia and China, to which Turkey is also making attempts for membership, was held in Moscow within the framework of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the TASS agency. The summit, to which only the Global Journalism Council (GJC) was invited as a non-governmental organization representing Turkey, was attended by GJC President Mehmet Ali Dim and Deputy President İsmail Bayazıt, as well as approximately 120 journalists from nearly 50 countries.
TASS, which was founded in Russia in 1904 as one of the oldest news agencies in the world, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year with various events. Within the scope of the events to which only Anadolu Agency was invited together with GJC from Turkey, different national and international organizations were held.
DIM: WE CREATED A SYNERGY WITH TASS
GJC, which hosted the 21st World Russian Media Congress in Turkey in 2019 with the participation of the members of the Russian Media Council, of which TASS representatives and correspondents around the world are also members, organized the Russian-Turkish Media Forum hosted by TASS in Moscow last year.
Celebrating the 120th anniversary of the founding of the TASS agency on behalf of the Global Journalism Council, which has representatives in 75 countries, President Mehmet Ali Dim said: “Within the scope of our developing relations with the Russian media and TASS, we aim to contribute to social rapprochement with the synergy we create by developing the cooperation and friendship of the journalists of the two countries. We are in constant communication with my dear friend Mikail Gusman, Deputy Director General of the TASS agency. We continue our joint efforts to move the existing relations forward. Our invitation to the BRICS media summit is an indication of the importance given not only to our council but also to our country through the corporate identity of the council. We were honored to participate in this important summit on behalf of the Council together with our Deputy President İsmail Bayazıt. We would like to thank the esteemed executives and hardworking team of TASS for the excellent hosting and successful organization of this summit, which contributed to better understand the importance of the BRICS formation in terms of the goals of our country as a regional power and our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who strives for the development of peace and social welfare in the world.”
BAYAZIT: MEDIA COOPERATION IS VERY IMPORTANT
GJC Vice President İsmail Bayazıt, who participated in the summit, pointed out that media cooperation can contribute to the further development of relations between Russia and Turkey and said the following:
“Within the scope of Media Summit BRICS, I would like to underline the importance we, as the Global Journalism Council (GJC), attach to the press and communication relations between Turkey and Russia. In today’s world, the media not only provides information transfer in inter-state relations, but also emerges as a powerful tool that directs social perceptions. The historical and strategic relations between Turkey and Russia are not only limited to trade, defense and energy, but also deepen through cooperation in the fields of media and communication. The media has a major role in strengthening the dialogues between the two countries and contributing to a better understanding between their peoples. Establishing healthy and sustainable relations between regional actors such as Turkey and Russia is possible through the flow of accurate information and an environment of trust built through the media. In this context, the CDA pays great attention to keeping the bridges of communication between the two countries intact and fostering mutual respect, understanding and cooperation through the media. By using media relations with Russia as an element of soft power, Turkey encourages closer ties between the peoples of both countries. As GJC, we are committed to strengthening these relations and keeping the channels of dialog open between the media of both countries. We believe that Turkey’s initiatives and joint projects in this field will contribute to the further deepening of relations between the two countries in all aspects.”
